Leadership

Cantor Laurel Robuck Barr, a Cleveland native, has a deep-rooted connection to the Jewish community. Her academic journey, resonating with her love for music, took her from Cleveland Heights High School to Carnegie Mellon University, and to The Cleveland Institute of Music.

Cantor Barr’s love for Judaism, combined with her passion for music, led her on the path to becoming a cantor. She studied with Cantor Stephen Stein of the Cantor’s Assembly in New York and Cantor Aaron Shifman of B’nai Jeshurun and served as full-time cantor for Temple Emanuel in Orange Village, OH. She also served as cantor for Celebrating Jewish life, a subscription series of holiday experiences for adults looking for a new way to connect to Jewish prayer and holidays in a more relaxed and social setting.

She is a member of the Women Cantors Network and serves as part-time spiritual leader for multiple senior living communities around Cleveland and surrounding areas leading residents in meaningful Shabbat and Holiday worship.

Cantor Barr also teaches Hebrew language through movement and music to children and leads a family Shabbat experiential program in the Cleveland community. Cantor Barr is a proponent of lifelong learning and continues to nurture and encourage all learners along their spiritual journey through prayer, song, education and engagement in Jewish rituals and customs.

Temple B’nai Abraham is warm and inclusive synagogue and invites all individuals and families to join in the vibrant, welcoming, spiritually, uplifting temple community that is TBA.
